I need advice on what step to take next concerning my career. I graduated with a 3rd class from the political science department in University of Lagos. I have registered for Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN) to further my skills in personnel management and am also thinking of taking my Masters in Public Administration after my NYSC programme. Please I want to know if I am taking the right steps. Thanks.
Careers Nigeria Advice:
We reckon that you are taking the necessary steps. However, you need to define your career direction - where are you going with this? what is your career focus? what kind of career are you pursuing? Knowing where you are going will help you greatly in determining whether you would need the qualifications and certifications you wish to acquire.

What is the website for NIM and what are their requirements? What is your view about Government related jobs?
Careers Nigeria Advice:
You can visit the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) website here. See this link for their requirements.
For your question on Government related jobs, please try to be specific on the job position you need advice on.

I am currently schooling in Yabatech, studying Electrical Engineering. I want to know the professional exam to write that partains to my field.
Careers Nigeria Advice:
We recommend that you register with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). You might also need a management course or qualification to take your career to the next level.

I am a graduate of Adult Education/Community Development; also a graduate member of NIM. I have received training from National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) as an Oracle 10g Database Administrator but have not written the professional exams. At the moment I am a marketing executive with an Insurance company in Port Harcourt but
I want to work with NGOs. What professional certification do I need to do that?
Careers Nigeria Advice:
We recommend that you use your current qualifications, skills, etc you have to apply for relevant job positions in any NGO of your choice in Nigeria. However, you need knowledge of project management, as well as teamwork and leadership skills. That’s where your NIM training comes into play.

I read French and German, but am very fluent in French. I can translate and interprete. What skill do you think I need to acquire? Or what professional exams can I add to this? Merci.
Careers Nigeria Advice:
This is a very rare skill in Nigeria. We suggest that you decide what career you would like to pursue whether in international organizations, schools, companies, etc or perhaps you may decide to work as a translator for private and public firms. See this link for more tips.

I am currently running my MSc in Economics and Finance at University of Skovde, Sweden. I will be through by August, 2008. My dream is to become known as a Finance Analyst. As a result am considering putting in for Certified Finance Analyst ( CFA ) but am not sure if ACCA is the best option to be a successful Finance Analyst.
